Located on the second floor of a two-unit rowhouse in Bangkok’s Mansri neighborhood, this 43-square-meter space was originally renovated to house 13 well-cared-for cats. Looking to the future, the owner decided to convert the floor into a cozy family home, thoughtfully designed to support aging-in-place for their elder mother.

To maximize a modest budget, the design upcycles the site’s existing components—reusing large aluminum sliding doors and repurposing the extensive wooden cat shelves left behind. The layout prioritizes universal accessibility, expanding circulation paths and the bathroom to accommodate senior living needs.

The wooden shelves is reassembled into a integrated built-in system, forming the TV unit, bookshelf, wardrobe, and vanity counter. Supported by exposed metal frameworks that relate to original structural, the metal-work are finished in a warm off-white tone. Paired with the rich character of the reclaimed wood, the design transforms a former pet haven into a bright, barrier-free home.
